Core beliefs of Buddhism:
Buddhism, like most of the great
religions of the world, is divided into
a number of different traditions.
However, most traditions share a common
set of fundamental beliefs.
One fundamental belief of Buddhism is
often referred to as reincarnation --
the concept that people are reborn after
dying. In fact, most individuals go
through many cycles of birth, living,
death and rebirth. A practicing Buddhist
differentiates between the concepts of
rebirth and reincarnation. In
reincarnation, the individual may recur
repeatedly. In rebirth, a person does
not necessarily return to Earth as the
same entity ever again. He compares it
to a leaf growing on a tree. When the
withering leaf falls off, a new leaf
will eventually replace it. It is
similar to the old leaf, but it is not
identical to the original leaf.
After many such cycles, if a person
releases their attachment to desire and
the self, they can attain Nirvana. This
is a state of liberation and freedom
from suffering.
The Three Trainings or Practices:
These three consist of:
Sila: Virtue, good conduct, morality.
This is based on two fundamental
principles:
The principle of equality: that all
living entities are equal.
The principle of reciprocity: This is
the "Golden Rule" in
Christianity -- to do onto others as you
would wish them to do
onto you. It is found in all major
religions.
Samadhi: Concentration, meditation,
mental development. Developing one's
mind is the path to wisdom which in turn
leads to personal freedom. Mental
development also strengthens and
controls our mind; this helps us
maintain good conduct.
Prajna: Discernment, insight, wisdom,
enlightenment. This is the real heart of
Buddhism. Wisdom will emerge if your
mind is pure and calm.
The first two paths listed in the
Eightfold Path, described below, refer
to discernment; the last three belong to
concentration; the middle three are
related to virtue.
The Four Noble Truths:
The Buddha's Four Noble Truths explore
human suffering. They may be described
(somewhat simplistically) as:
Dukkha: Suffering exists: (Suffering is
real and almost universal. Suffering has
many causes: loss, sickness, pain,
failure, the impermanence of pleasure.)
Samudaya: There is a cause for
suffering. (It is the desire to have and
control things. It can take many forms:
craving of sensual pleasures; the desire
for fame; the desire to avoid unpleasant
sensations, like fear, anger or
jealousy.)
Nirodha: There is an end to suffering.
(Suffering ceases with the final
liberation of Nirvana (a.k.a. Nibbana).
The mind experiences complete freedom,
liberation and non-attachment. It lets
go of any desire or craving.)
Magga: In order to end suffering, you
must follow the Eightfold Path.
The Five Precepts:
These are rules to live by. They are
somewhat analogous to the second half of
the Ten Commandments in Judaism and
Christianity -- that part of the
Decalogue which describes behaviors to
avoid. However, they are
recommendations, not commandments.
Believers are expected to use their own
intelligence in deciding exactly how to
apply these rules.
Do not kill. This is sometimes
translated as "not harming" or an
absence of violence.
Do not steal. This is generally
interpreted as including the avoidance
of fraud and economic exploitation.
Do not lie. This is sometimes
interpreted as including name calling,
gossip, etc.
Do not misuse sex. For monks and nuns,
this means any departure from complete
celibacy. For the laity, adultery is
forbidden, along with any sexual
harassment or exploitation, including
that within marriage. The Buddha did not
discuss consensual premarital sex within
a committed relationship; Thus, Buddhist
traditions differ on this. Most
Buddhists, probably influenced by their
local cultures, condemn same-sex sexual
activity regardless of the nature of the
relationship between the people
involved.
Do not consume alcohol or other drugs.
The main concern here is that
intoxicants cloud the mind. Some have
included as a drug other methods of
divorcing ourselves from reality -- e.g.
movies, television, the Internet. 1
Those preparing for monastic life or who
are not within a family are expected to
avoid an additional five activities:
6. Taking untimely meals.
7. Dancing, singing, music, watching
grotesque mime.
8. Use of garlands, perfumes and
personal adornment.
9. Use of high seats.
10. Accepting gold or silver.
There is also a series of eight precepts
which are composed of the first seven
listed above, followed by the eighth and
ninth combined as one. "Ordained
Theravada monks promise to follow 227
precepts!" 3
The Eightfold Path:
The Buddha's Eightfold Path consists of:
Panna: Discernment, wisdom: 1) Samma
ditthi Right Understanding of the Four
Noble Truths
2) Samma sankappa: Right thinking;
following the right path in life
Sila: Virtue, morality: 3) Samma vaca:
Right speech: no lying, criticism,
condemning, gossip, harsh language
4) Samma kammanta Right conduct by
following the Five Precepts
5) Samma ajiva: Right livelihood;
support yourself without harming others
Samadhi: Concentration, meditation: 6)
Samma vayama Right Effort: promote good
thoughts; conquer evil thoughts
7) Samma sati Right Mindfulness: Become
aware of your body, mind and feelings
8) Samma samadhi Right Concentration:
Meditate to achieve a higher state of
consciousness

Great Vow Bodhisattva (Ksitigarbha Buddha) - LARGE
He is known as Di Zhang Bodhisattva in Chinese, Ksitigarbha in Sanskrit, and
Jizo Bosatsu in Japanese. The Di Zhang has a great vow to not achieve Buddhahood
until "all the Hells are empty". But his vow actually encompasses all sentient
beings and to save sentient beings, even if he has to suffer retribution. The
popularity of Di Zhang is next to Kwan Yin among the Chinese. He carries with
him the ALARM STAFF, considered as a symbol of goodwill, compassion and care. It
sends out the message of how precious every living creature is and none should
be sacrificed. One can display the statue to suppress Quarrelsome Star #3. The
Alarm Staff is not a weapon. Instead it is a staff with rounded loops at the top
with jingling rings that symbolizes peace, harmony and respect for all living
realms. Its jingling rings are said to produce hyms that creates awareness. It
is one of the eighteen treasures of Buddhism. It is normally carried by high
practising buddhist monks (close to sainthood) to clear the pathway and warn
small creatures (such as creeping life like ants) to make way so that they will
not be stepped and killed. In ancient Sanskrit, it is called the "Khakhara" or "Hikile".
This staff reminds those practising Buddhism to abstain from killing. If one

most significant mythic bodhisattva in the Mahayana tradition. The Lotus Sutra
assigns him a paradise called Vimala, which according to the Avatamsaka Sutra is
located in the east. Manjusri is frequently depicted in Chinese traditions as
riding on the back of a lion. Those who have negative mindset, stressed,
depressed, suicidal, quarrelsome and troublesome can benefit from the Manjusri.
Bodhisattva Manjusri is also the guardian deity of zodiac rabbit. Those who are
born in the years of the rabbit can invite him home as the guardian angel. He
provides great power in clearing obstacles and inviting wealth from endless
resources when these zodiacs are going through difficulty and in great problems.

Buddha is a sanskrit word that means the awakened one. Buddha is seen in
Hinduism as the 9th incarnation of Vishnu, who decided to go down to earth to
purify Hinduism. Buddha taught that every man could deliver himself from the
wheel of rebirth with a correct inner attitude. His right hand represents
vitarka mudra, or the transmission of Buddha's teaching. His other hand holds
the alms bowl, which symbolizes renunciation.

Weight : 1500 gms
The Citipati are two skeletons, one of a man and the other of a woman,
represented with arms and legs interlaced, dancing the Tsam dance. They are
considered to be masters of the cemetery. The Citipati are one of the
seventy-five forms of Mahakala and are visible reminders of the impermanence of
everything worldly. Their mouths are parted in a large grin, showing all their
teeth. Each wears a long scarf. According to a Northern Buddhist legend, the
Citipati were, in a former existence, two ascetics who were once lost in such
deep meditation that they did not notice that a thief had cut off their heads
and thrown them in the dust. Since that time they have been ferocious enemies of
thieves, having vowed eternal vengeance. This legend is somewhat similar to that
of Yama. In the cemetery, the Citipati are supposed to perform a skeleton ritual
dance during which they blow the Tibetan long horns. In most monasteries the
dance, symbolic of the cycle of life and death, is performed in the monastery
cemetery once in summer and once in winter by monks wearing masks.

Beautiful 6” skull
cup know as kapala, is fashioned from the oval upper section of a human
cranium.
$735.00
Weight : 240 gms
The skull cup, known as kapala in Sanskrit, is fashioned from the oval
upper section of a human cranium. It serves as a libation vessel for a
vast number of Vajrayana deities, mostly wrathful.
As a ritual implement, the selection of the right skull is of immense
importance for the success of the ritual. The skull of a murder or
execution victim is believed to possess the greatest tantric power; the
skull of one who has died from a violent or accidental death, or from a
virulent illness, possesses a medium magical power; the skull of a person
who died peacefully in old age has virtually no occult power. The skull of
a child who died during the onset of puberty also has great potency, as do
the skulls of miscegenated or misbegotten child of unknown paternity, born
from the forbidden union of castes, out of wedlock, from sexual
misdemeanor, or particularly from incest. The 'misbegotten skull' of a
seven or eight-year-old child born from an incestuous union is considered
to possess the greatest power in certain tantric rituals. Here the vital
force or potential of the skull's 'previous owner' is embodied within the
bone as a spirit, rendering it as an effective power object for the
performance of tantric rituals.

Shakyamuni is the historical Buddha who lived 2,500 years ago. He was an
ordinary human being who, through dedication and unwavering effort,
awakened to his Buddha nature.
The Sleeping Buddha is Sakyamuni on his death bed entering nirvana. Before
the Buddha's death, he became severely sick. He walked northwest with his
disciples and had the food offered by a blacksmith. His illness was
getting worse. In the end, he came to a river and took a bath. Then he
made a rope bed among eight sal trees, with each direction has two. He
lied on his side, right hand supporting his head, the other resting on his
body. All later reclining Buddhas (called Buddha's Nirvana) are in the
same posture. The Buddha's disciples kept watch on him after they were
told the Buddha was going to nirvana. At night, a scholar of Brahman went
to see the Buddha, but was stopped by Ananda, a disciple of the Buddha.
Hearing this, the Buddha called the scholar to his bed and worded for him.
Thus the scholar became the Buddha's last disciple. The final exhortation
of theBuddha to his disciples was that they should not be sorry for losing
their tutor. Their should take the Buddhism Doctrine as their guide, eager
for progress, no indulgence. After his death, the Buddha's remains were
cremated.

A prayer wheel is a holy object containing the Tibetan mantra "Om! Mane
Padme Hum!" ("Hail! Jewel in the Lotus!") written many times on a scroll

wheel is comparable to reciting the mantra. Prayer wheels assume many
